These diaries, interleaved in agricultural almanacs, and covering the period 1819 to 1839, include frequent, though not daily, entries concerning farming, planting, and fishing, with information on preparation of nets, type of fish in a particular catch, etc. Howell is also preoccupied with the weather and how it might affect her livelihood. Also mentioned are visits with her eleven children, and other family matters such as illness and death.

Anna Blackwood Howell (1769-1855) was the widow of Joshua Ladd Howell (1762-1818) of Gloucester County, N.J., who inherited fisheries on the Delaware River.
